Robust Fiber Optic Backbone Systems That Connect Your Entire Facility
A fiber optic backbone system provides:
- The primary high-speed infrastructure connecting your facility's main distribution frames,
- Intermediate distribution frames,
- Network equipment across buildings, floors, and campus locations.
This backbone eliminates the bandwidth limitations and recurring costs of leased telecommunications circuits while supporting technology upgrades for decades.
Commercial Cabling Company installs single-mode fiber for building-to-building connections and multimode fiber (OM3/OM4) for shorter runs within buildings. Our installations serve data centers, call centers, and corporate campuses requiring reliable high-speed connectivity.
This Backbone Installation Service Includes:
- Outside plant fiber between buildings with underground or aerial pathways
- Vertical riser backbone connecting floors in multi-story buildings
- Data center backbone linking equipment racks and server rooms
- MDF to IDF connections throughout your facility
- Precision fusion splicing for permanent, low-loss connections
- Fluke certified testing with complete documentation delivery
Available as Separate Services:
- Horizontal fiber runs to individual workstations, also known as Network Cabling
- Network electronics and switching equipment
- Wireless Access Point Installation
- Security camera systems and access control cabling
Fiber optic backbone installation is a critical component of comprehensive Network Data Cabling systems that support your complete telecommunications infrastructure.
Fusion Splicing Creates Permanent Reliability
Fusion splicing permanently joins fiber optic cables by precisely aligning fiber cores and fusing them with heat. This technique creates connections with minimal signal loss and maximum long-term reliability. Mechanical splicing and connectorization cannot match the performance fusion splicing provides for backbone applications.
Commercial Cabling Company technicians completed rigorous apprenticeship training specifically in fusion splicing methods that meet industry performance standards. Fusion-spliced connections eliminate the air gaps present in mechanical connections, resulting in superior optical performance. Every fusion splice receives protective housing that guards against moisture, temperature variation, and physical stress.
Facilities directors receive test documentation showing the exact performance of each connection, providing confidence when reporting infrastructure quality to management.
When Your Facility Needs Fiber Installation Services
Network Performance Problems
Network performance problems often indicate backbone infrastructure limitations.
Intermittent connectivity affecting multiple users suggests capacity constraints in the backbone connecting telecommunications rooms.
Slow data transfer speeds between buildings or floors point to inadequate fiber connections or degraded splices.
Technology Upgrades
Technology Upgrades Require Modern Backbone Infrastructure
Facilities planning technology upgrades discover that their existing backbone cannot support higher-speed network equipment.
Cat5e copper risers installed 15 years ago lack the bandwidth for current requirements.
Outdated multimode fiber specifications prevent the operation of newer transceivers designed for OM3 or OM4 performance.
Backbone Limitations
Professional Assessment Identifies Specific Limitations
Commercial Cabling Company assesses the existing backbone infrastructure and identifies specific limitations that affect network performance.
Our recommendations address current problems while providing capacity for anticipated growth.
From single-drop tenant improvements to
500+ drop data center build-outs.
Every project includes professional installation, full testing and certification, and complete documentation. Our experienced technicians deliver cost-effective, future-ready cabling solutions that ensure your network performs reliably for years to come.
Fiber Optic Cable Installation for Building-to-Building Connections
Outside plant fiber optic cable installation creates permanent network connectivity between separate structures on your campus or business park.
Underground fiber installations protect cables from environmental exposure while providing high-capacity data pathways that eliminate dependency on external telecommunications providers.
Our fiber optic installation experience spans commercial facilities throughout:
- Phoenix
- Mesa
- Scottsdale
- Tucson.
We design routes that avoid utility conflicts, accommodate future expansion, and meet Arizona and Nevada building codes.
Vertical Riser Systems for Multi-Story Buildings
Multi-story commercial buildings depend on vertical riser backbone to connect network equipment across floors. Commercial Cabling Company installs riser backbone that meets fire and building code requirements while providing the capacity for hundreds of network connections per floor.
Our fiber optic contractor teams work in active facilities without disrupting daily operations.
The installation process includes:
Pathway coordination with building infrastructure
Proper fire-stopping at floor penetrations
Organized cable management in telecommunications rooms
Properly installed fiber risers support current 1G network equipment and future 10G+ upgrades without re-cabling.
Facilities directors receive:
Documented installations that satisfy building inspectors
Insurance requirements
Network performance standards
Data Center Fiber Optic Technology and Backbone Infrastructure
Data centers require fiber optic cable connections between equipment racks, server rooms, and network distribution points with zero tolerance for downtime. Commercial Cabling Company specializes in large-scale, fast-track data center build-outs where timing and reliability determine project success.
Data Center Manager Blake Bercher described our work as creating "a low-stress, fun experience through innovation and efficiency."
OM3 And OM4 Multimode Fiber for Shorter Connections
OM3 and OM4 multimode fiber delivers high bandwidth for campus backbone runs and data center connections up to 328 feet, supporting 10 Gigabit and higher speeds in dense network environments.
Single-Mode Fiber for Longer Backbone Runs:
Single-mode fiber provides low-loss transmission over extended distances, making it the standard choice for inter-building campus links, MDF-to-IDF risers, and any backbone run exceeding 328 feet.
High-Density Environments Requiring Superior Bandwidth
High-density environments such as data centers, call centers, and multi-tenant facilities require fiber backbones that support hundreds of connections without performance degradation or future capacity limitations.
Precision Installation With Certified Testing
Every fiber installation is fusion spliced, connectorized, labeled to ANSI/TIA-606 standards, and validated with Fluke certification testing to ensure performance meets design specifications and industry standards.
Professional Fiber Optic Installation Process
01
Site Assessment and Pathway AnalysisOur fiber optic installer teams evaluate your facility to identify optimal backbone routes and connection points before installation begins. This assessment reveals potential obstacles including utility conflicts, structural limitations, and code requirements. You receive recommendations based on 30 years of telecommunications experience starting with union apprenticeship training in downtown Chicago.
02
Engineered Design and DocumentationComplete project documentation specifies exact materials, pathways, and connection methods. Detailed scope prevents the surprise change orders that damage contractor relationships and create budget uncertainty.
03
Installation with Minimal DisruptionFiber cable placement and fusion splicing occur according to the approved design with coordination around your operational schedule. We work in active facilities including call centers, healthcare environments, and educational institutions where business continuity is not negotiable. Commercial Cabling Company handles aggressive schedules and on-the-fly design changes common in commercial environments.
04
Certified Testing and Documentation DeliveryEvery backbone connection receives Fluke certified testing that measures insertion loss, return loss, length, and polarity. Certification includes detailed test results for every fiber connection, splice enclosure locations, cable routing diagrams, and as-built drawings. This documentation proves installation quality to building inspectors, insurance carriers, and your IT department.
